Rangers board has finally terminated Barry Ferguson contract deal with club as his replacement is confirm

Rangers could be set to move ever closer to naming Davide Ancelotti as their new head coach.

The Italian has emerged as a true target for the Gers as they eye a new manager ahead of the new Scottish Premiership season.

This comes after Barry Ferguson’s exit as interim boss, with the Ibrox hierarchy in desperate need of a new man in the dugout in the coming days and weeks.

It appears that the Govan club are closing in on an appointment of Ancelotti after an announcement was made via social media.

Ancelotti statement emerges ahead of Rangers move

There have been many names linked to the vacant seat at Ibrox, but very few have stood the test of time as the summer window looms.

This has seen the Real Madrid assistant and Steven Gerrard remain as the only managers who feel likely to take up the role in G51.

Although a return for the Englishman may prove to be popular among supporters, it does appear that a deal for Ancelotti is set to progress.

This comes after the 35-year-old confirmed his departure from Los Blancos, alongside his father Carlo Ancelotti, who is preparing for a move to Brazil.

Despite having one LaLiga game remaining plus multiple Club World Cup clashes to come, the assistant has confirmed his departure via Instagram (23 May).

In a lengthy and emotional statement, one line in particular will be of interest to Gers supporters, as he said: “Start a new phase for me. With excitement, with respect, and with the desire to apply everything I have learned here.”

This points towards a head coach role being in the pipeline for the ex-Bayern Munich assistant, with his destination potentially set to be Ibrox.
