Nuno Espirito Santo contract deal with club has finally been terminated after behind-the-scenes talks
Nottingham Forest have been one of the overachieving teams of 2024/25 and that is largely down to Nuno Espirito Santo.
The Forest head coach joined the club in December 2023 and led the team to Premier League survival before helping the team kick on this season.
Going into the final day of the season, Forest can still qualify for the Champions League and face Chelsea at the City Ground looking to finish above the Blues.
Espirito Santo has quietly gone about his business all season and thanks to the work he and his staff have done, the club are looking forward to European football next season.
Now, a big update has emerged on Espirito Santo and it’s one that is going to send shockwaves across the East Midlands.
Nuno Espirito Santo could leave after behind-the-scenes talks
According to Foot Mercato, Forest might choose to wish Espirito Santo well and choose to change their manager during the summer transfer window.
Despite his performances this season, Evangelos Marinakis has been discussing the future of his boss behind the scenes with other boardroom members.
Marinakis remonstrated with Espirito Santo after a recent draw with Leicester, although that was cleared up in the media as a complete misunderstanding.
It would appear, however, that there is no smoke without fire and this latest report certainly sets the alarm bells ringing ahead of Sunday’s huge City Ground clash with Chelsea.
Espirito Santo deserves chance to stay at Forest
Although Marinakis is ambitious, there is no need for him to seek a new head coach ahead of next season.
There is a sense that the Forest owner might not be happy that the club were third with eight games remaining and have now slipped to seventh, but context is required.
