West Ham in talks for ex-striker to return as Graham Potter replacement and new manager

West Ham are set for a major overhaul this summer, with incomings expected on the player and staff fronts.

West Ham‘s miserable season is edging closer to completion, and everyone associated with the London Stadium will be keen to put the failures behind them.

A 17th-place finish could be on the cards for the Irons in the Premier League, showcasing just how much they have regressed under Graham Potter.

They will need to make a decision on where his future at West Ham lies, though it looks as though he will be aided this summer by the return of a former Irons striker.

Potter to be boosted by return of former striker

The term ‘striker’ is a very common one for West Ham, and that is down to the failings they have had when trying to recruit one over the past few seasons.

Evan Ferguson’s arrival has flopped, and the Irons will undoubtedly be on the lookout to recruit a new one in the summer.

However, Potter could be boosted by the return of one of England’s most prolific strikers in Jermain Defoe, who, according to ExWHUEmployee via West Ham Way (17 May), is in talks to join the coaching staff at Chadwell Heath.

Defoe had an illustrious career across several English clubs, and his experience could massively help Potter on and off the pitch.

Talks are said to have been held between parties, though, at the moment, any deal looks unlikely, but that could change if an agreement is reached.

West Ham must focus on recruitment

As much as they may be aided by new staff members, the squad is lacking quality in various areas of the pitch, and that needs to be addressed.
