Richard Foster was not impressed after Robin Propper was involved in a “dangerous” moment in the Rangers clash against St Johnstone on Saturday (17 August).

The 30-year-old was partnered up with John Souttar to face the Saints in the Scottish League Cup, playing together for the third consecutive match in all competitions.

However, it could have been a very different story after a strong challenge from the centre-back during the first half, making contact with a St Johnstone player high on the leg, at least Foster believes so.

Speaking live via BBC Sportsound on Saturday (17 August, 6:05), he said: That’s a dangerous tackle there by Propper.

“I know he’s going up for the ball, but it doesn’t look great. It looks like he’s caught him with a knee or a thigh.”

Robin Propper is dangerous in Rangers v St Johnstone

Propper has experienced a rough start to life in Scotland, scoring an own goal against Motherwell on his debut before being knocked out of the Champions League and being dragged off injured against the Saints.

Following Connor Goldson’s exit to Aris Limassol, Clement was desperate to bring in a new defensive figure to work alongside either Ben Davies or Souttar, and it looked as though he had found him.

Fans will be hoping that the Dutchman can put those early setbacks behind him and become the defining figure at the back that the Gers need him to be to create a solid wall in front of Jack Butland.

The Scottish League Cup will be on Clement’s list of priorities, it would be a statement to retain the title after beating Aberdeen in the final last season, beating Old Firm rivals Celtic to a trophy.

Without the Champions League to worry about, albeit dropping down to the Europa League now, the new manager must prove himself against the Hoops with pressure already mounting on him at Ibrox.

Those objectives would have been made a lot harder should Propper have been punished for his “dangerous” moment in the first half, but he lived to play on until being substituted off due to injury.
