Davide Ancelotti sees Rangers next boss cover broken by dad Carlo as Brazil question lingers over ‘important’ coach
Ancelotti Jr is on the Ibrox radar as they look to appoint Philippe Clement’s permanent successor
Rangers next manager candidate Davide Ancelotti has been hailed by dad Carlo as an “important” member of his coaching team.
The comments from the Real Madrid boss come amid speculation the five-time Champions League winner could take Davide to his next job with the Brazil national team when he leaves the Bernabeu this summer.
Record Sport understands the hunt for the next manager in the Ibrox hot seat is at an advanced stage with CEO Patrick Stewart and sporting director Kevin Thelwell leading the process – with Ancelotti Jr among the contenders.
The Madrid lieutenant has reportedly long admired by the 49ers Enterprises and Thelwell as the search for Philippe Clement’s permanent successor ramps up.
Barry Ferguson had the job at Ibrox on an interim basis but Rangers’ draw with Hibs to round off the Premiership campaign appears to have pulled the curtain down on his tenure.
And Le Selecao bound boss Carlo has broken the silence around the future of his son – insisting he remains a key part of his staff.
Speaking ahead of the La Liga clash with Sevilla, he said: “He’s an important part of my coaching staff, also because we have a special father-and-son relationship.
“I have a lot of confidence in him. He tells me things that sometimes others on the coaching staff don’t dare to.
“The coaching staff is young, enthusiastic and makes me think a lot. They are young, but they have experience.
“The group of analysts at the club is very good, with Simone (Montanaro) leading them. Real Madrid will be able to enjoy their work in the future.
