SO SAD;Abdoulaye Doucoure and Beto react as Everton ace appears to confirm exit
Everton duo Abdoulaye Doucoure and Beto are among those to have reacted after one of their teammates seemingly confirmed they will leave the club this summer.
The coming months will be a busy period for the Toffees both on and off the pitch as they prepare for the 2025/26 campaign.
Everton will play their last men’s first-team game at Goodison Park when they host Southampton on Sunday (18 May).
After that David Moyes‘ side are due to move to their new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock from the start of next season, and they could be doing so with a rather new look squad.
Joao Virginia looks set for summer move
Goalkeeper Joao Virginia is one of a number Everton players who are out of contract at the end of this season.
The 25-year-old has been with the Toffees since 2018, but in that time has made just a handful of appearances, largely playing second-fiddle to Jordan Pickford in recent times.
Taking to Instagram, the former Portugal youth international now appears to have confirmed he will leave the club when his deal expires this summer.
Joao Virginia Everton record | Total (Transfermarkt) |
Appearances | 8 |
Goals Conceded | 5 |
Clean Sheets | 5 |
Posting a picture of himself other members of the Everton goalkeeping department, Virginia then added the caption: “The GK union. It’s been a pleasue.”
In response, Doucoure commented on that post with a teary-eyed and a loveheart emoji, while other Toffees players such as Beto and Idrissa Gueye liked the message.
Everton exit makes sense
Football Insider Verdict
If this is Virginia’s decision to leave the club when his contract expires, then he has arguably made the right one.
At 25-years-old, the goalkeeper really ought to be playing consistent first-team football if he is to progress in his career.
