Patrick Bamford ‘exit set’ as Leeds United take Scottish Premiership gamble

Patrick Bamford could potentially leave Leeds United soon as a transfer gamble from the Scottish Premiership is being prepared.

The Englishman has been with the Whites since 2018, but a move away next summer seems likely.

Wrexham have shown interest in Bamford, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see the 31-year-old move to the Welsh outfit, who will play Championship football in the upcoming campaign.

Daniel Farke will undoubtedly want support for Joel Piroe up front, and they already have some names in mind to bolster their attack.

Celtic forward Daizen Maeda could be a transfer gamble for the Whites, Lee Hendrie says.

The Sky Sports pundit expects Bamford to leave Elland Road next summer, leading to the need for a new attacker soon.

While Hendrie feels it may be a gamble for the West Yorkshire outfit to bring the 27-year-old Japan international from Scotland to the Premier League, he’s green-lighted a possible move.

Speaking to Football League World (14 May), the ex-Aston Villa midfielder said: “I’ve said all along that Leeds are going to be linked with so many centre-forwards. Bamford probably isn’t going to be around. Piroe has done very well, but I think at times he’s more of a 10. So they do need someone who is a bit more prolific.

“[Maeda] has got experience, and he’s scored goals. The jump from coming down from Scotland to stepping into a Leeds side who will be expected to compete, you do think it could be half a gamble.

“But when you look at the numbers he has produced for Celtic, I don’t think it would be a bad signing. This is going to be a tough one to call.”
