Rangers backed to seal ‘sensational’ Steven Gerrard deal – ‘Here we go’
Steven Gerrard could be set to return to Rangers nearly four years after leaving Ibrox.
The Liverpudlian guided the Light Blues to their last Scottish Premiership title in the 2020/21 campaign in his first job in management.
The 44-year-old left the Gers to manage Aston Villa but his stint in the Premier League was dismal and he was sacked after just 11 months.
However, he has been tipped to come back to Govan as the 49ers seek a potential replacement for interim boss Barry Ferguson.
Ryan Jack makes Gerrard return to Rangers claim
Jack made 210 appearances for the Ibrox outfit and was a part of the title-winning squad under Gerrard.
He backed the former Liverpool star to return to Auchenhowie as he knows exactly how to deal with the pressure that comes with managing the Bears.
In an interview with Mail Sport, he said: “When you talk about mentality, pressure, demands – and knowing the club – he’s ideal.
“For me, if it’s about being able to handle all of that? He’s a leader, probably the best I’ve ever had in my career.
“Immediately, he had that interaction with the fans. Right away, he had that passion.
“For us as players, when we saw that we thought: ‘Here we go, he knows what this is all about’.”
Rangers should be wary of Gerrard return
The ex-England international would bring the feel-good factor back to Govan but the 49ers need to be wary of appointing him.
Gerrard has struggled to replicate the success that he had with the Light Blues in his stints at Villa Park and with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Ettifaq.
Team | Win rate |
Rangers | 64.8% |
Aston Villa | 32.5% |
Al-Ettifaq | 39% |
It is not the same Gers that he managed, the squad is in need of a major overhaul in the transfer market to bridge the 17-point gap to arch-rivals Celtic.
