DONE DEAL;Eric Dier agrees three-year contract as talks held with West Ham

West Ham have held talks with Eric Dier as they look to strengthen their leaky defence this summer.

Graham Potter’s side have thoroughly underwhelmed all season and are currently in 17th in the Premier League.

West Ham have conceded 58 league goals this season, and their leaky backline will need addressing in the summer.

However, the Hammers may operate with a limited budget. As a result, they may have to look at free agents, with former Tottenham defender Dier on the East London club’s radar.

Dier agrees AS Monaco transfer after West Ham approach

West Ham could be in the market for a new centre-back this summer, and former England international Dier was a target.

Dier’s contract with Bayern Munich runs out at the end of the season, and the German giants have already confirmed that the 31-year-old will leave the Allianz Arena.

As reported by TBR Football (1 May), Dier held talks with several Premier League sides, including West Ham, Everton and Leeds, over a potential move this summer.

However, the Englishman has agreed on a move to French side Monaco, where he will sign a three-year contract [Lyall Thomas].

West Ham miss out on Dier

Dier made 365 Spurs appearances, with more than 200 of those coming in the Premier League, before joining Bayern Munich.

The centre-back might not have solved all of West Ham’s defensive problems, but he could have been a very useful option in the current setup. In a back three, Dier could have slotted in alongside Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo and brought more experience and tough tackling to the defensive line.

Meanwhile, as a squad player, he could have been a useful pickup on a free transfer, but the defender clearly preferred to continue abroad, and he will now move to Ligue 1 to play at Monaco.
