SHOCKING NEWS;Ryan Yates makes clear decision after terminating contract deal with club after what happened
Latest Nottingham Forest news from NottinghamshireLive as Reds skipper reflects on 2-0 defeat by Brentford and looks ahead to Crystal Palace clash
Ryan Yates is looking at the bigger picture after Nottingham Forest lost 2-0 to Brentford at the City Ground to leave their Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.
Goals from Kevin Schade and Yoane Wissa were sufficient to inflict a damaging defeat on the Reds, who remain sixth in the Premier League table when victory would have taken them up to third.
But Forest captain Yates refused to get too down after seeing a wonderful opportunity go begging, instead focusing on what his team must do better and their next game.
That will be at Crystal Palace on Monday night, and Yates told Sky Sports: “Fine margins have let us down, but we’re positive with four games to go.
We all know it’s the business end of the season. Through the midfield and forwards, we should have created chances to score, but we didn’t. We defend and attack as a team. We have to move on to Palace.”
Yates was suspended for Forest’s FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester City on Sunday, but played down any thoughts of a Wembley hangover with his team-mates who did play.
He added: “You’ve got to look at each game and put all your focus into it. We’re isolating each game as it comes to try to get fired up and put this behind us.
“We’re just thinking about Palace. We haven’t got long and that’s all we’re focused on. We’ve reacted well to setbacks this season. That will show the character of the group.”
Team-mate Anthony Elanga had a similar message. He told BBC Match of the Day: “We lost in the semi-final the other day and we’ve lost today. We need to regroup for Monday.
