SUDDEN DEPARTURE; Leeds United announces the exit of Brenden Aaronson as his replacement emerges

Brenden Aaronson could say goodbye to Leeds United fans at Plymouth on Saturday.

It would no doubt be a bittersweet farewell for the 24-year-old USA international, who’s played a major role in Leeds’ return to the Premier League this season.

He could go out on a high of winning the Championship title.

However, his time at Leeds could be over without him getting the chance to continue his redemption arc in the Premier League.

Aaronson backed to quit Leeds for World Cup dream

Aaronson’s debut season at Elland Road was a miserable one.

Jesse March was given the player that Marcelo Bielsa really wanted, but the American struggled to get anything remotely good out of his compatriot.

It’s probably fair to say Aaronson was hounded out of Leeds by fans who were furious with what seemed like a lack of effort in the top flight, and a loan move to Union Berlin followed.

After a rather mediocre season in Germany, the former RB Salzburg star returned to Elland Road and opinions continued to be mixed until he started to perform well in the Championship under Daniel Farke.

However, despite logging nine goals and two assists in his 45 Championship appearances this season, The Athletic reports that the attacking midfielder’s time at Elland Road could be up.

During his time at Leeds, Aaronson has dropped out of the USA national team and with a home World Cup to look forward to in 2026, there’s no doubt that the midfielder will want to be back in Mauricio Pochettino’s thinking in time for that.

Leeds to seek Aaronson replacement for Premier League return

The Athletic added on Thursday (1 May) that Leeds could look to sign a new No 10 in the summer transfer window after winning promotion to the Premier League.
