Charlie Miller has launched a harrowing attack on Rangers over the club’s behind-the-scenes activity and lack of financial control over the redevelopment of Edminston House.

Rangers faced Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League qualifiers on Tuesday but fell to a 2-0 loss at Hampden Park and crashed out of the competition.

The Gers playing away from the Ibrox had an impact as the club missed out on a potential £40m windfall from Champions League qualification. Miller blamed the hierarchy for the club’s current situation and questioned how the finances have dried up.

“All these mistakes off the pitch add up and take away from money that could be better spent on it. How on earth do we end up in this situation with the stadium being out of use? It’s diabolical,” he said to the Daily Record [15 August].

“You’ve got Edmiston House costing millions more than it should. How? HOW? Honestly it’s just been one thing after another and the fans are the ones bearing the brunt.

“They’re left with a team who while they do work hard, just simply aren’t good enough. It’s the fans I feel sorry for. They’ve put in bloody fortunes and this is how they’re repaid. The situation with the stadium, the whole thing is so amateurish. The fans have been treated like dirt.

Philippe Clement has a big job ahead at Rangers

The Gers have missed a golden opportunity to improve their finances and ply their trade in the Champions League this season so Clement must continue his work on a shoestring budget.

Miller believes the current side is worse than the side that finished eight points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership and won the Scottish League Cup last term and it is hard to disagree.

Clement will be without regular starters Connor Goldson, John Lundstram, and Borna Barisic this season with club captain James Tavernier also expected to leave before the 30 August deadline [TEAMtalk].

Rangers will play their home matches at Hampden Park as construction continues at the Ibrox and, that has already affected the side this season [Scottish Daily Mail] with fans growing restless over the incompetence of those running the football club.

In recent years, the Light Blues have won the SPFL under Steven Gerrard, reached the Europa League final in 2022, and featured in the Champions League group stages in the 2022/23 season which will have accumulated a significant cash influx into the club. So now, the question is where has the money been spent.

The fans know all too well where the Gers’ current financial decision can lead to after the club entered administration in 2012 and, those within the hierarchy responsible for the decision-making need to be held accountable and find a way to provide Clement with the support he needs this season.
