Graham Potter drops hint he’ll be signing Carlos Soler for West Ham

West Ham United head coach Graham Potter has made some questionable selection decisions recently.

In fact, ‘questionable’ is putting it far too politely. Perhaps clueless would be a more apt way of describing Potter when is comes to selecting starting lineups and making in-game changes.

The best example of that ineptitude was when Potter started Carlos Soler and James Ward-Prowse alongside one another in central midfield for our clash with Southampton.

The performance from West Ham in general against the Saints was truly atrocious.

After going 1-0 up, the Hammers players sat back and invited pressure onto themselves.

This was summed up by Vladimir Coufal trying to protect the ball by the corner flag late on in the game.

It was no surprise in the end when Southampton equalised in the dying minutes of the match – it was nothing less than West Ham deserved.

Graham Potter drops hint he’ll be signing Carlos Soler for West Ham

Soler joined the Hammers on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer.

However, the 28-year-old Spain international has been horrendous for West Ham.

As a result, it has been claimed that West Ham definitely won’t be signing Soler on a permanent deal from PSG this summer.

However, it seems to me like Potter may well have another plan.

In my opinion, there is absolutely no value in giving Soler minutes, let alone starts, if he won’t be here next season.

It is a complete waste of time and Potter would be far better served by throwing a youngster into the side.

Why not give Lewis Orford some minutes? Unless of course, Potter is planning to bring Soler to the London Stadium permanently in the summer transfer window.

Carlos Soler available for £16.5 million

It has to be said, West Ham surely won’t be even considering signing the Spaniard on a permanent deal this summer.
