West Ham has terminated Michail Antonio contract deal with club after what happened
Manager Graham Potter also indicated Crysencio Summerville is unlikely to play again this season.
West Ham boss Graham Potter hopes Michail Antonio will return to training soon but was unable to offer any assurances about a new contract for the striker.
Antonio is continuing his recovery away from the club after a car crash in December which left him with a badly broken femur.
The 35-year-old, West Ham’s record Premier League goalscorer, is determined to resume his career when he is fit, but he will be out of contract at the end of the season.
“He’s progressing, step by step. He’s away from us at the moment just training but he’s due back soon,” said Potter.
“We’re happy with how he’s going. We’re supporting him and it’s going well.
“Any contract discussions will remain, as you’d expect, between the club and the player. It’s not for me to comment on that. When we’ve got something to announce we’ll announce it.”
Meanwhile, Hammers winger Crysencio Summerville looks unlikely to play again this season.
The 23-year-old has been on the sidelines since tearing a hamstring in January.
“Cry is still training with the physios, he’ll be a few weeks yet I think,” added Potter.
“It’s been a fairly complicated one for him so we’ve just had to take our time.”
West Ham face relegated Southampton at home on Saturday with a slight doubt over right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
“There’s a slight issue with Aaron, a toe that he’s had to have an injection on,” Potter said at the pre-match press conference.
“We’ll see how he is tomorrow, hopefully he’ll be OK for the game but we’ll see.”
