Graham Potter reveals club planning on signing Jonathan David best striker in the world
West Ham United head coach Graham Potter is putting pressure on influential figures behind the scenes to wrap up the signing of Jonathan David after Inter Milan have been threatening to convince the Lille star to head in an alternative direction instead of the London Stadium, GIVEMESPORT sources have revealed.
Although Evan Ferguson arrived on a temporary basis from Brighton & Hove Albion in the final hours of the winter transfer window, thanks to agreeing to fork out a substantial loan fee and cover the entirety of his pay package, the Hammers are determined to bring in fresh firepower during the summer.
Danny Ings and Michail Antonio remain in line to leave West Ham as free agents unless they are tied down to fresh terms, due to their contracts worth a combined total of £210,000-per-week being due to expire at the end of June, and David is firmly in the capital club’s sights as a potential recruit.
Potter has asked West Ham’s hierarchy to land David, according to GMS sources, but the tactician is in danger of being left frustrated in his pursuit as Champions League quarter-finalists Inter Milan are among the other sides showing interest and making contact over a switch.
Although the frontman is on course to be available without having to part with a transfer fee, he will still not come cheap for the Hammers as he is demanding a gross salary of £7.8million-per-season, along with a £13million signing bonus, while there will be additional commission fees worth in excess of £8.5million.
GMS sources have been informed that Potter wants West Ham to push to recruit David, resulting in them making fresh contact over the past month, and they have made strong financial proposals that have led to the east Londoners becoming increasingly hopeful of winning the race for his signature.
