Abdoulaye Doucouré rejected club terms and will not renew a new and improved contract with Everton
Abdoulaye Doucouré could be set to sign a new and improved contract with Everton.
Doucouré’s future remains up in the air with the midfielder’s current deal expiring at the end of the season.
The 32-year-old once again demonstrated his importance by netting a last-minute winner as the Toffees beat Nottingham Forest 1-0 at the City Ground in the Premier League on Saturday (12 April).
After the match, Doucouré admitted he is keen to sign a new contract at Everton, and it looks as though he could soon get his wish.
Everton ‘to offer Doucouré short-term deal’
He continued to demonstrate his love for the Toffees with his message to Everton supporters after full-time in the East Midlands.
Doucouré celebrated his goal at the City Ground by mimicking the signing of a contract with his hands, with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards having their say on the celebration.
And ex-Goodison scout Bryan King – speaking exclusively to Goodison News – believes a one-year contract, with an option for another year, could be forthcoming.
“He scored the winner against Nottingham Forest,” King said.
“It was a strong run and a good finish. If he is prepared to stay, I’m sure that Everton would be willing to offer him a new contract on improved terms.
“However, it would be a short-term deal. I think it would be a year-long contract with the option of another year. If you want to be a successful football club, you need players who want to play for the football club, and this player does.”
Doucouré must await a decision from Everton
Everton are in complete control when it comes to Doucouré’s future on Merseyside.
The 32-year-old has made it clear that he wants to sign a new deal. Therefore, all he can do is wait to see if he is offered fresh terms between now and the end of the season.
