Ianis Hagi starting more games for Rangers would trigger a wage increase clause in his contract, and that is a real issue for the club.
Sky Sports reported the clause in its live blog (12 August, 19:18) and shared that the Romanian international would like to stay at Ibrox, after being told he can leave before August 30.
This comes amid Rangers continuing to chop away at his value by putting him in the B team (Keith Jackson), with no way out currently emerging.
Rangers have Ianis Hagi transfer problem
Hagi himself has teased that he could wind up staying at Ibrox, but that could now be impossible as this problem of a wage increase emerges.
It comes at a time when Philippe Clement himself has admitted that the club needs to sell players to raise funds for any new transfers before the August 30 deadline.
He seems fit, he seems motivated, and it appears as if he’s ready to put in the hours necessary to work his way back into the squad. At the weekend, he even bagged a hat-trick for the B team against Derby County.
Clement has told the Romanian star that he won’t feature in his plans this season. At the same time, the 25-year-old seems defiant – and he appears ready to prove the doubters wrong.
There are always going to be concerns when someone comes back from a serious knee injury. With that being said, perhaps he deserves the opportunity to get a few minutes under his belt.
Rangers haven’t had an overwhelmingly positive start to the campaign, and they could use a few wildcard options, but could they have shot themselves in the foot with this one?
