Drew McIntyre ready to forgive Gerrard as next Rangers manager claim made

Rangers are edging closer to naming a new permanent manager at Ibrox ahead of next season.

The Scottish giants have been without a full-time manager since Philippe Clement was sacked in February after just 16 months in charge of the team.

Underwhelming results and performances had left Rangers 13 points adrift of Celtic at that time, and the decision was made to cut ties with the Belgian coach in a bid to salvage the season.

Former club captain Barry Ferguson was brought back to Ibrox after that on a temporary basis until the end of the season, with Rangers set to make a decision about the full-time position afterward.

Ferguson has been looking to prove his qualities as a manager since then in a bid to earn the permanent role, but expected new owners the 49ers Enterprises may look to make more of a statement with their first appointment.

Steven Gerrard is nearing a return to Ibrox

Several notable names have been linked with the hot seat at Ibrox for next season, including former Champions League winners Jose Mourinho and Rafa Benitez.

However, the frontrunner for the role is former Rangers boss and Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, 44, who is all too familiar with the expectations that come with managing this club.

It is believed that the 49ers are keen on hiring Gerrard once their takeover has been finalised, now that he is free following his time working in Saudi Arabia.

However, the Gers may face competition in trying to re-hire Gerrard as Southampton are also interested in him as an option after parting ways with Ivan Juric.

Gerrard left Rangers in 2021 to take on the Aston Villa managerial job, giving him the chance to run a Premier League team for the first time in his career.
