Leeds United are back at square one in their search for a new winger and a replacement for Crysencio Summerville after missing out on Jesurun Rak-Sakyi, while Jonathan Rowe looks set for France.
Rak-Sakyi is set for a loan to Sheffield United despite Leeds bidding a hefty £15m fee to land the Crystal Palace ace. Rowe is keen on a move to the south of France, as Marseille table a bid for the Norwich ace.
Here, we consider five Premier League wingers currently out of favour that Leeds could turn to before the deadline on August 30:
Reiss Nelson (Arsenal)
Just one Premier League start in two seasons for 24-year-old Nelson is expected to see him depart The Gunners, even if Mikel Arteta would prefer he stays to provide depth at The Emirates during 2024-25.
Emile Smith-Rowe has left and Eddie Nketiah is linked with Bournemouth and Marseille. That group of Hale End products are finally being broken up but Premier League clubs are likely to be keen on Nelson.
Jeremy Sarmiento (Brighton)
Ecuador star Sarmiento, 22, spent time om loan at West Brom and then Ipswich last season and scored five Championship goals in 40 appearances. Brighton have signed Yankuba Minteh from Newcastle.
With Solly March, Samuel Adingra, Kaoru Mitoma and Minteh at Brighton, the chances are Sarmiento is going to struggle for game time again and he may fancy a third loan spell in The Championship at Leeds.
Maxwel Cornet (West Ham)
West Ham wide man Cornet trained with Georginio Rutter prior to the start of pre-season, but with West Ham signing Crysencio Summerville, Cornet is likely to have fallen further down the pecking order.
Bought for £17.5m from Burnley, 27-year-old Cornet only managed seven Premier League outings last season. He will be allowed to leave but it is unclear if he would be open to dropping down a division.
Ben Doak (Liverpool)
Tenacious 18-year-old Doak played six times for Liverpool’s first team last season but Arne Slot is likely to want to send the Scotland star out on loan to gain some valuable game time during the 2024-25 season.
Liverpool have just sold Fabio Carvalho but Doak is still unlikely to force his way into contention for the starting XI. He’s been linked with a surprise return to Celtic on loan this month, under Brendan Rodgers.
Kayky (Man City)
City bought Brazilian winger Kayky, 21, for a fee of £9m from Fluminense in 2021. But he has since failed to live up to the hype during loans at Portuguese side Pacos de Ferreira and then Brazilian outfit Bahia.
He needs a loan again this summer and a stage to shine, and giving him a taste of English football may be something City are keen on doing. Kayky was coined the ‘next Neymar’ when joining City in 2021.
