Rangers bid for Gustavo Puerta amid £5m offer and loan to buy claim

Rangers transfer window has gone in fits and starts with the double signing of Robin Pröpper and Vaclav Cerny seeming like a long time ago.

Philippe Clement is clearly frustrated at having to sell before he can buy with too many players collecting big wages that either aren’t contributing at all or aren’t a good fit for how he wants to play.

This hasn’t stopped Rangers from being linked with new players and a name that was loosely mentioned earlier in the transfer window has now been claimed as a concrete target.

Rangers bid for Gustavo Puerta revealed

Nils Koppen’s signing policy has seen young players who can make an immediate contribution considered and Gustavo Puerta ticks a lot of the same boxes that Oscar Cortes does.

Not only that, but they share the same representatives who Rangers struck up a good relationship through the TransferRoom conferences that the recruitment director has been attending.

According to Farzam Abolhosseini of Tipsbladet, a Danish media outlet, Rangers could be up against it if they want to land the 20-year old powerhouse midfielder.

“In recent weeks alone, many media have reported that the big clubs from Scotland and Belgium, Rangers FC and Anderlecht have bid for him and are in the race for his signature, and the same applies to PAOK and Blackburn Rovers and other Bundesliga clubs, just as Tipsbladet is aware that another big Danish club is also trying to grab him.

“Gustavo Puerta is also such an important part of the plans of the German champions that they will pay well to let him go, and recently it has been reported very close that Anderlecht would be ready to rent him and at the same time get a purchase option of six million euros, DKK 45 million.”

A loan-to-buy deal with a purchase option of £5m wouldn’t be out of reach given that Jose Cifuentes is set to be sold for £4.2m.

Puerta would be perfect Rangers signing

Having featured for Bayer Leverkusen last season, Puerta is clearly a talented player, backed up by his 30 Colombia Under-20 caps too.

It is an area of the park where Rangers need to strengthen and Philippe Clement would love to have more options to sit in front of the defence and dictate play.

For once, none of the other clubs named are notorious big spenders who could blow Rangers out the water but they will need to move fast if they want to land the powerfully built enforcer.

Qualifying for the Champions League will give the manager more money to spend in terms of bringing players to Ibrox, however, investing in quality could be key in helping them qualify in the first place.
