Josh Sargent;Nottingham Forest reveal player pleading to be signed back at the club after rejection
Norwich City’s Josh Sargent has steadily evolved into a superb Championship striker, with only injuries preventing him from enjoying truly prolific goalscoring seasons.
The American forward was signed by the Canaries from Werder Bremen in 2021 for a fee of £8 million. During a dismal season in which Norwich amassed just 22 points, he managed only four goals in 29 appearances across all competitions.
Since then, he has spent three seasons in the Championship, boasting an exemplary record. This season, he has netted 14 goals in 26 league appearances, following previous campaigns in which the Norwich number nine scored 16 and 13 respectively.
The most impressive aspect of this is his goal-per-minute ratio, with Sargent averaging a goal every 164 minutes. This equates to a 25-goal season if he played every match, but injuries have disrupted his time at Carrow Road.
Nevertheless, he seems ready for a return to the top flight and Nottingham Forest have reportedly sent scouts to watch the 25-year-old. Sky Sports’ Florian Pettenburg has also claimed other Premier League sides are interested, with a move back to Germany potentially on the cards as well.
Forest are in the midst of a special season in the top flight with Nuno Espírito Santo’s side battling it out for a Champions League spot. Their current options up front are Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi, but with the former ageing and the latter struggling for consistency, a move for Sargent appears to be a sensible option.
With this in mind, Football League World has examined his current wages at Norwich and what they could look like should he make the step-up to the City Ground.
Josh Sargent’s Norwich City wages
Sargent’s initial contract at Carrow Road provided him with a healthy wage for his age, with the then 21-year-old earning £12,115 per week. This amounted to an annual salary of £630,000.
