CONFIRMED DEPARTURE;‘Jack Butland to never play for Rangers again after Barry Ferguson’s decision’…
Jack Butland has not enjoyed the best of seasons with inconsistent performances for Rangers.
The 32-year-old still has a couple of years left to run on his deal at Ibrox, having joined back in 2023.
This term, the Englishman has conceded 26 league goals in 25 games for Gers.
Four Lads issues verdict on Butland’s future at Rangers
Butland isn’t the root of the team’s troubles, but his performances have shown flickers of inconsistency that have raised eyebrows among fans and pundits alike.
Signed in 2023, the former England international brought a wealth of experience from his stints at Stoke City and Crystal Palace, offering stability in goal during a transitional period for the Glasgow giants.
However, while he’s pulled off some stunning saves, with his reflexes and command of the box often shining through, there have been moments where lapses in concentration or questionable decision-making have cost the team.
Four Lads Had a Dream’s Stevie Clifford wrote in the Rangers Review on 4 April: “Maybe it’s fair to say Butland hasn’t had his best moments recently, but at the same time, his shot-stopping has still been of the highest quality, as per the stats.
“Maybe he is another one suffering from a defence that lacks dominant leaders, quality and consistency. Every one of us wants at least two new quality centre-backs for the summer, so why would Butland be any different?
“Maybe, just maybe, the criticism is deserved? Maybe, just maybe, the criticism is too harsh? With better defenders and better players in this team, Butland will get back to the levels we have seen him hit before, of that much I am sure.
“Perhaps the No.1 isn’t the issue everyone thinks he is presently and is just the latest to take a walk in the firing line.”
