Alejandro Garnacho;Manchester United star struck new long-term contract deal with Nottingham Forest

Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho found some form before the international break and he will be hoping to continue where he left off after the two-week hiatus

Alejandro Garnacho issued a two-word message after returning to Manchester United on Monday. The 20-year-old, who was left out of the Argentina squad for two World Cup qualifiers during the international break, has spent the seven days away from Carrington.

Garnacho was omitted from the Argentina camp ahead of matches against Uruguay and Brazil because Lionel Scaloni wanted to call up Bologna’s Benjamin Dominguez instead. Garnacho has been capped eight times by Argentina after switching his international allegiance from Spain in March 2022.

Speaking in a press conference ahead of his side’s trip to Uruguay, Scaloni said: “We decided to call up Benjamin Dominguez over Garnacho to be able to see him, he brings something we didn’t have. He is a guy who is doing well, he can play as a winger on the right or left, he easily gets past defenders.”

Instead, it appears Garnacho decided to take some time off and recoup ahead of the run-in for United. After having spent a brief period away from Manchester, Garnacho is back. He posted on Instagram on Monday with a photo of him in football boots and shorts with the caption: “Back home.”

After a slow start to life under Ruben Amorim, Garnacho’s form has improved in recent weeks. He has scored once and grabbed two assists in his last four appearances for United. Garnacho has looked a bright spark in a United team lacking guile and power at the top end of the pitch – and his return to form has been welcomed.

Speaking after Rasmus Hojlund and Garnacho got on the scoresheet during United’s 3-0 win over Leicester before the international break, Amorim told the BBC.
