Scottish FA to delay Celtic v Rangers investigation after new developments

Daizen Maida and Reo Hatate had earlier cancelled out a two-goal lead given to Rangers by Nico Raskin and Mohamed Diomande.

As ever with Old Firm fixtures, there was plenty to digest both on and off the field – including a bizarre incident involving Vaclav Cerny.

Police Scotland have launched an investigation into scenes late on in the match, in which Cerny sprayed water from a bottle in the direction of home fans.

Incredibly, Rangers ace Cerny could be hit with an eight-game ban in the worst-case scenario, with the Scottish Football Association also looking into the incident.

And according to former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, it is likely that Sky Sports will be leaned on to share footage to help with the various probes

As a result of Police Scotland intervening, it may also delay the SFA’s separate investigation.

“In the stadium there are a large number of security cameras trained on the fans to gather information when the security is being challenged,” Hackett said.

“Having seen this in operation in a Premier League stadium, Police Scotland will be carrying out a forensic examination of video footage.

“They will also request footage from the broadcasters. The Scottish FA will put on hold their investigation allowing the police to take action.

“Once the police have completed their investigations and completed any sanctions that may arise in a Court of Law or via the Scottish legal process, the Scottish FA will determine if any further action is required by themselves.”

Cerny is not the only Rangers player facing possible action, with Diomande also potentially in hot water due to his celebration at Celtic Park.

Fines will matter little to Rangers fans, who saw their side pick up a famous win via a last-gasp wonderstrike.
