West Ham facing ‘huge loss’ after Lucas Paqueta life ban news

West Ham are facing a “huge loss” if Lucas Paqueta is found guilty of breaching the FA’s betting rules, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke explained that the Hammers would not only be losing a key player but also missing out on a significant transfer fee.

The Brazil international was expected to move to Man City in 2024, but a potential £80million deal fell through after the allegations were raised.

This comes as the FA are seeking for the midfielder to face a lifetime ban from the sport if found guilty by the independent panel at his hearing.

Paqueta’s hearing is set to take place this month and will last around three weeks after he was charged with breaching the betting rules in May 2024.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson told Football Insider on 26 February that the situation has created a “big problem” for Paqueta and West Ham.

West Ham prepare for Lucas Paqueta ban after transfer twist

Former Hammers scout Mick Brown told Football Insider on 4 March that West Ham are preparing to sign Paqueta’s replacement ahead of the hearing.

However, complications surrounding the exit of Tim Steidten and appointment of Kyle Macaulay have disrupted the Hammers’ transfer plans.

There are also concerns that they will miss out on a potential transfer fee for Paqueta as a result of the hearing, limiting their ability to spend big this summer.

West Ham side have been plotting potential free transfers, including interest in Southampton star Kyle Walker-Peters, as they prepare to back Potter in the window.
