Newcastle all but CONFIRM Anthony Gordon is leaving
Liverpool’s summer rebuild plans are underway, and a number of positions are due an upgrade.
As exclusively revealed by Anfield Watch, a number of high-profile names including Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota are set to depart Anfield to make way for new signings.
These departures would leave Liverpool needing to recruit Premier League ready stars who can slot straight into the starting XI when needed.
Of course, a multitude of names have been linked with an Anfield switch, but there are a few names that stand out.
One player who has been linked with a move to the Merseyside club for a while is Anthony Gordon, and now Newcastle have all but confirmed his departure.
Newcastle chasing Gordon replacement
According to a report from Football Insider, Newcastle are pursuing a deal for Serie A hotshot Assane Diao.
Diao has also been linked with a move to Liverpool, but Newcastle will likely be able to offer the player more in terms of game time.
The 19-year-old, who joined Como in January, has already scored five goals in 10 games for the Serie A side.
Although Diao isn’t a like-for-like replacement for Gordon, both players are capable of being deployed right across the front line, and Diao has played almost half of his games for Como on the left – Gordon’s preferred position.
It would likely take a high fee for Como to move on from the teenager they paid €12 million for in January, and Newcastle would probably have to sell Gordon to fund their summer business.
Gordon to Liverpool
Although he is an Everton academy graduate, the links between Gordon and Liverpool have persisted since before he moved to the North East.
The Reds were rumoured to be in for the 24-year-old last summer, when it looked as though Diaz may leave Anfield, and now they are once again reported to be lining up Gordon as Diaz replacement
