Departing Leeds United chief ‘plots’ Elland Road raid ahead of Premier League switch
Angus Kinnear is to join Everton as their new chief executive this summer
Departing chief executive Angus Kinnear is planning on taking some of his Leeds United backroom team with him to Everton. That is according to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, who claims Kinnear could take two or three key allies in his behind-the-scenes switch.
The Championship club confirmed on Friday that Kinnear will leave the club at the end of the season. Kinnear is to join Everton in the summer, with Kinnear beginning the role on June 1.
Everton executive chairman Marc Watts said: “Angus is one of England’s leading football executives and brings a wealth of relevant experience. His appointment means Everton will go into the summer with a first-class leader.”
Kinnear spent eight years at Elland Road, overseeing their promotion to the Premier League in 2020, the ownership transition to 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group in 2023 along with the purchase of Elland Road Stadium and its return to the club. Chairman Paraag Marathe paid tribute to Kinnear in a statement on the club website: “I want to thank Angus for his commitment and service for so many years, and for being a fantastic steward and leader of the club.
As we move forward, I am confident that the incredible talent across our team will sustain our success. In the meantime, I look forward to continuing to work with both Angus and Peter as we fight for promotion in the coming weeks.”
The Whites, currently top of the Championship on goal difference after Sheffield United’s hard-fought win over Preston North End yesterday, take on Portsmouth at Fratton Park today.
