Chelsea sweating on new injury as Enzo Maresca issues update ahead of Leicester City
Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca has issued an injury update on Malo Gusto ahead of facing Leicester City.
Gusto went off injured midway through the first half of Chelsea’s 2-1 Europa Conference League win against Copenhagen on Thursday night.
Maresca said he expected Gusto to be available for Sunday’s Premier League meeting at Stamford Bridge against the Foxes (2pm).
Asked about his injury after the final whistle, Maresca said: “He’s okay, he’s better. They just told me he can be ready for Sunday’s game, so hopefully we can have him for Sunday’s game.”
Chelsea will face Copenhagen in the second leg of their last-16 Conference League tie next week, but Maresca insists his full focus is now on his former club Leicester.
“The main game for us is Sunday’s game at home and we need our fans for 100 minutes behind the team and pushing the team,” he added.
“If we can win against Leicester on Sunday, we can do one more step to finishing in the Champions League, (whether) top four or top five, I do not know.”
Speaking to the site, TBR’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey revealed that Manchester United and Chelsea are among the clubs looking at Monga.
“I understand that a host of clubs wanted Monga – Man United, Chelsea and Newcastle,” Bailey said.
“There were also German giants RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund amongst others.”
At the moment, Man City are very much in the driving seat, but there’s still work to be done yet.
Since making the switch to Stamford Bridge, Dewsbury-Hall has only made eight appearances in the top flight, with most of his action coming in the Europa Conference League.
The versatile midfielder has started in all but one fixture so far, including last night’s 2-1 victory over Copenhagen in the round of 16 first leg.
