Rasmus Kristensen may have stayed at Leeds United as transfer agreement emerges

Rasmus Kristensen is set to make a permanent move away from Leeds United in the summer transfer window but Daniel Farke could have kept him at Elland Road.

Kristensen has spent the season on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt, making himself a regular in the team with 30 league appearances, scoring twice and providing three assists.

The 27-year-old has not played for Leeds since the 2022/23 season, having spent last term on loan with Roma after Premier League relegation.

Farke was close to retaining Kristensen at Leeds

Ahead of the summer transfer window, Leeds have reached an agreement to sell Kristensen already.

A deal has been agreed in principle for a fee of £4.9million, which could increase to £6.6million with bonuses.

Frankfurt had an option to buy the player for a deal up to £9.9million but conversations have taken place and instead, a lower figure was agreed.

However, it has been shared that Farke did consider bringing him back to Leeds, as his previous Premier League experience with the Whites could be of benefit next season.

According to Graeme Bailey (4 March), Kristensen instead made it clear that he wanted to stay put in Germany, with that now being agreed.

Kristensen exit best for all parties

You can understand why Farke wanted to consider the future of Kristensen given he did make 30 Premier League appearances with Leeds previously.

If the right-back had been keen to explore the return too, then it definitely could have been one to push forward with.

However, the 27-year-old is clearly settled on loan and by letting him go permanently, it gives Leeds the chance to earn some money off his sale.

Farke has got some quality players in his current Leeds squad and although he will be looking to add to that if promotion to the Premier League is achieved, you can’t imagine that Kristensen would come back and immediately be a first choice option for the boss either.
