Huge boost for Tottenham as key star could return against AZ Alkmaar

Tottenham Hotspur are gearing up for a crunch Europa League tie against AZ Alkmaar and they have now learned that one of their key players is in the running to feature in the first leg in the Netherlands this Thursday.

Ange Postecoglou has been boosted by the return of some key players over recent weeks and more are expected to follow over the next couple of games.

Various reports have indicated that everyone apart from Radu Dragusin is in line to be fit for Tottenham’s first leg against AZ Alkmaar at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next week.

It has now emerged that one key Spurs man, who has not featured for the club in four months, could make the trip to Alkmaar with the squad.

Cristian Romero in the running for Tottenham return

The Telegraph say that Cristian Romero has been making good progress at Hotspur Way and that the Tottenham vice-captain is in line to be part of the matchday squad at the AFAS Stadion.

In fact, the outlet says that by the time the centre-back links up with the Argentina squad for the international break later this month, he could have featured four times for Tottenham already.

The outlet also adds that the North London club will keep in ‘close contact, with the Albiceleste setup over the next couple of weeks to update them of the defender’s progress and to notify them of any setbacks.

Will Postecoglou risk including Romero in the starting eleven?

Given how carefully Postecoglou and the Spurs coaching staff have managed Romero and Micky van de Ven’s workload, it seems unlikely that the pair will be thrown straight into the starting eleven in a big crunch game.

Kevin Danso and Archie Gray have impressed as a pairing and the Australian is likely to stick with the pair on Thursday.
