Scottish media react to Youssef Chermiti’s first Rangers start since leaving Everton

Since leaving Everton, Youssef Chermiti has struggled at Rangers, and now a new verdict has been dropped after his first start.

The 21-year-old striker made the bold decision to make the jump from Merseyside to Glasgow this summer.

It was warranted as Chermiti was getting limited game time since arriving at the club, and his fortunes under David Moyes didn’t look like they were improving.

The £8 million move seemed like the best solution as Chermiti has a sell-on clause from his sale as well, which could at least benefit Everton should he leave the Scots for a large fee.

His departure was a risk made by the Blues, and now the Scottish media have given their thoughts on the Portuguese star’s first start.

There is promise in the young forward, but his start to life with the Gers hasn’t been pretty, with Rangers fans criticising Chermiti’s debut.

Now the same pattern seems to have followed, with the Scotsman giving a brutally honest rating about the striker’s first start in a 1-0 Europa League defeat to Genk.

“Put himself about a little, but was largely anonymous,” they said.

“Thought he’d scored when his header was cleared off the line, but it wouldn’t have counted anyway due to the referee awarding a foul. Offered little else. 4/10.”

It’s hard to argue with the outlet, as the 21-year-old has failed to adapt to his new environment so far.

There is still time for Chermiti to shine and show the promising talent that Everton paid £15 million for.

He obviously didn’t get his chance with the Toffees as his exit seemed inevitable, but it’s become clear the Blues failed at one thing after his sale.
