‘Rangers have agreed termination fee, paid up six months of contract’

Rangers have faced various hurdles on and off the field this season after falling further behind Old Firm rivals Celtic.

The Scottish giants have seen various senior executives leave Ibrox, while Philippe Clement was sacked as manager on 23 February.

The Record reported on 24 February the Belgian’s compensation fee was significantly higher than the £1.2million figure other media outlets have suggested.

Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Rangers likely agreed a compensation clause capping the amount Clement would receive.

Barry Ferguson has arrived as interim boss with a clutch of Ibrox favourites joining his coaching staff.

After the former Gers captain got off to a solid start with a 4-2 victory over Kilmarnock, his side were beaten 2-1 at home by Motherwell on Saturday (1 March).

Former Ibrox striker Mark Hateley has insisted Steven Gerrard would be the perfect manager to lead Rangers forward amid rumours linking him with a return.

Rangers to avoid financial hit after Philippe Clement sacking

Borson insisted Clement’s compenasation fee will not be significant despite him only agreeing a new contract until 2028 last summer.

He told Football Insider: “I suspect the compensation was capped out with some kind of clause that gave him six months money, probably something like that.

“I think it’s unlikely that it was a paid to the end of the contract type thing.

“These days they generally have clauses that actually look quite a lot like the clauses that normal people have in the outside world as opposed to the sorts of contracts that players have.

“Players contracts are very specifically fixed-term contracts without the ability to make people redundant or sack them with notice.

“I wouldn’t think it’s going to make a very material difference to Rangers to have removed Clement, even though they only recently signed him on a new contract.”
