Potter Must Think Again – Don’t Sell This High-Quality Performer!
West Ham just have to find a way to keep Jean-Clair Todibo at the club permanently.
The Hammers have an obligation to buy the Frenchman at the end of this season for £35m, which will automatically be triggered.
However, the general consensus is that Todibo will be purchased from Nice and then moved on quickly to raise transfer funds.
But such is his quality that West Ham must seriously reconsider any strategy to ‘flip’ the player to Manchester United, who wanted him in the first place.
While the central defender has only played limited minutes for Graham Potter in the Irons’ last two games, he has looked a cut above. Watching him play, it’s easy to see why Barcelona originally bought the player and had such big plans for him.
, his career didn’t quite have the trajectory many expected from Europe’s most promising defender early on, but the quality is there.
He is perfect for Graham Potter’s three-man defensive system, and I doubt very much whether we’d be able to purchase anyone better. There is a very good reason why the likes of Man Utd, Juventus, and PSG are chasing the defender.
But West Ham are in the driving seat – he’s our player after all. If the club needs funds in the next transfer window, then I suggest we find them elsewhere.
Six points in two games, two clean sheets and West Ham are climbing the table again. Difficult to believe – and important to remember – that Graham Potter hasn’t yet completed two months of tenure as West Ham head coach and already he has steadied the ship. Bringing young talent from the academy, improving squad morale so that the ‘want-away’ factor disappeared and an attractive loan signing in January has helped but Potters’ main achievement to date has been creating a ‘defence that can defend’.
