UNBELIEVABLE NEWS;Barry Ferguson to replace Philippe Clement as manager

Rangers are set to hold crunch talks with Barry Ferguson to replace Philippe Clement as manager, according to Jim White.

Clement’s sacking was announced on Sunday (23 February) following the Gers’ 2-0 defeat to St Mirren the day before, unable to close the 13-point gap on their Old Firm rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

The Light Blues had an incredible chance to do so, with Brendan Rodgers’ side slipping up in a 2-1 loss to Hibernian, and Celtic even had a goal ruled out after officials “guessed” at a decision.

While Clement’s team have found success in the Europa League this season, reaching the knockout stages and lining up a clash against Fenerbahce, the decision has been made to end his time at Ibrox.

Barry Ferguson could be Rangers manager until the end of the season

According to White on 24 February, Rangers are set for talks with Ferguson over becoming Clement’s successor later the same day following his sacking on Sunday (23 February).

The former Gers midfielder, who made over 400 appearances for the club, would be named manager until the end of the season, with the team currently 13 points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.

Philippe Clement was walking a tightrope at Ibrox for months

It was only really a matter of time before Patrick Stewart finally pulled the plug on Clement’s tenure, with the Gers struggling in the Scottish Premiership and embarrassing supporters with performances.

Many expected the Belgian to go following the shock 1-0 defeat to Queen’s Park in the Scottish Cup, but the hierarchy remained strong on his position, just delaying the inevitable.

The Light Blues have been extremely clear with their feelings about the now-ex-manager, with the Union Bears even walking out of the 3-0 win over Aberdeen last month as a sign of protest.
