CONFIRMED NEWS;West ham suddenly announces the change of their club’s name

Fair to say that Upton Park is now fondly remembered by just about every Hammers fan old enough to have been a supporter during the ‘good old days’ before the move in 2016. However much the board would like to dress it up, the olympic stadium move has not been popular with a huge portion of ‘old’ West Ham fans: As per Sean’s article yesterday there has been a big drop – off each year with many disillusioned or disenchanted fans not renewing season tickets. 29,000 to be exact.

The arguments about the soulless atmosphere, the away fans in home sections, awful access and terrible catering continue. But there has been an interesting development with Aaron Wan-Bissaka suggesting that, from a players perspective at least, critics have it all wrong about West Ham’s home.

Speaking to whufc.com, ‘The Spider’ shed light on what it is like to play at the stadium which has been dubbed the worst in the Premier League. When asked the question:

“What have you enjoyed the most about being at West Ham so far” – West Ham’s #29 answered.

Making London Stadium our home. It’s a beautiful stadium. Before I joined, I had played here but was on the other end, so to experience it on this end is very special and has been an incredible feeling.”

Which is remarkable, coming from a player who made over 190 appearances for Manchester United – whose home ground is the iconic Old Trafford!

London Stadium, built for an Olympic Games in 2012 and since dressed up as a faux-football stadium, certainly doesn’t generate that ‘incredible feeling’ from a supporters’ perspective.

However if there really is a ‘pulling power’ for players who join the club, then that can only be a good thing for the capture of new recruits.

So, now we know. “London Stadium – it isn’t universally disliked.”

Not much of a strapline though.
