Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as Nuno Espirito Santo’s Reds have one eye on summer window

Nottingham Forest are said to be plotting to reignite their interest in Corinthians striker Yuri Alberto this summer.

The Reds were first linked with the Brazilian last November as they prepared for the winter transfer window. At the time, Alberto was not shy about discussing his dream of playing in the Premier League amid the likes of West Ham United, Everton, Newcastle United and Brentford also eyeing him up.

Reports from the player’s homeland suggested a £19 million bid could be in the offing from Forest. Although nothing materialised, up front is an area the club will see as a priority for strengthening come the end of the campaign.

Inter Milan are also said to be keen on the 23-year-old, who is tied down to Corinthians until December 31, 2027. The report claims Alberto’s contract includes a €100 million (£82m) release clause but his club are prepared to “settle” for a “much lower” fee as they need to sell.

It is said the Brazilian outfit have “set the initial request” for the forward at €35m (£28m) but haven’t ruled out going as low as €25m (£20m) plus bonuses. They are reportedly hoping for a summer bidding war for the player.

Earlier this week Sport Mediaset quoted Alberto’s agent – who they did not name – as saying: “At the moment we have no offers on the table. Yuri can play in all the big teams in Serie A, he could also tempt Inter. I think the price is around €25 million.

Forest had their eyes on bolstering Nuno Espirito Santo’s forward ranks for the second half of the season. Brentford’s Yoane Wissa was a top target and an offer, said to be in the region of £18-22m, was turned down.
