Fikayo Tomori has now broken his silence on turning down a switch to Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window, with the AC Milan man explaining why he did not want to return to London last month.
Tottenham failed with an approach for Fikayo Tomori
Spurs strengthened in central defence with the addition of Kevin Danso to their squad in the dying stages of the January window, but according to reports, the Austrian was not the only centre-back they tried to sign.
In the final days of the window, the North London club reportedly made an approach to sign Tomori after losing Radu Dragusin to an ACL injury.
However, sources from Italy said at the time that Fikayo Tomori international turned down the chance to move to Tottenham as he did not want to leave Milan mid-season.
Fikayo Tomori reveals why he rejected Tottenham
While the Chelsea academy graduate has been a mainstay in the Rossoneri backline in previous years, that has not been the case this season as he has been in and out of the side.
However, the 27-year-old has now made it clear that he never seriously considered the prospect of leaving the Serie A giants during last month’s transfer window despite his lack of regular game time this campaign.
When asked about turning down Spurs‘ approach, Tomori responded (via Fabrizio Romano): “I never planned to leave AC Milan, that’s very clear and simple. I’m just happy to be at this club and as long as they want me, I want to stay.”
Will Spurs go back in for Tomori in the summer?
While Tomori’s stock has fallen over the last 12 to 18 months, it is clear why Postecoglou likes the Englishman.
The former Chelsea defender is quick, technically good on the ball and dominant in one-v-one duals, which makes him a good fit for Tottenham’s system.
