Ex-Rangers manager Steven Gerrard finds himself back on the managerial scrap heap after parting ways with Al-Ettifaq.

The legendary former Liverpool midfielder left the Saudi Pro League side by ‘mutual consent’ with the Dammam club stagnating this season.

Whilst Gerrard’s successor has since started turning things around in Saudi, the former Rangers manager is now back looking for new opportunities.

With one leading English Championship role now vacant, could Steven Gerrard be the man to help one Ibrox enigma finally reach his potential?

Steven Gerrard in Blackburn Rovers discussion

Blackburn Rovers are on the hunt for a new manager after John Eustace controversially returned to Derby County.

Eustace had 5th place Rovers challenging for a place in the Premier League playoffs but moved back to former club Derby for family reasons.

Much to the frustration of the board at Ewood Park.

Now Rovers are on the hunt for Ewood’s successor with Steven Gerrard amongst the names being discussed for the role in the press.

Paul Merson told Sky Sports Gillette Soccer Saturday that Gerrard’s appointment would get people ‘talking’ whilst the ex-Rangers manager is on the list of favourites alongside Steve Cooper, Gary O’Neil and Ryan Lowe.

“I mean, if they went and got Steven Gerrard,” said Merson. “My God we’d be talking about Blackburn.”

Could ex-Rangers manager harness Ibrox enigma?

It remains unclear just how much interest there is from either party with regards Steven Gerrard and the Blackburn Rovers job.

But if the ex-Rangers boss was to get the gig then he would be in charge of controversial ex-Ibrox midfielder Todd Cantwell.

Cantwell, 26, moved to Blackburn Rovers from Rangers in the summer and has had a tumultuous few years as he looks to get his career back on track.
