Former Leeds United manager leaves club after horrendous run of form

As far as managers go, Leeds United have certainly had their share, and what an array it’s been.

Daniel Farke is the current man in charge at Leeds United. The experienced Championship manager is eyeing up a third second tier title in his career having previously won two at Norwich City.

Right now, his team are on well on track. Despite having dropped down to 2nd place of the Championship table over the weekend, after Sheffield United beat Luton Town, Leeds can put seven points between themselves and Burnley in 3rd if they beat 4th place Sunderland on Monday night.

And Farke could soon become the first manager since Marcelo Bielsa in 2020 to guide Leeds United to promotion. Jesse Marsh, Javi Gracia, and Sam Allardyce have all sat in the hotseat since Bielsa left almost three years ago to the day.

In fact, Leeds have had 17 different, permanent managers since 2010. There’s certainly been some questionable appointments over the years, though one who actually boasted a decent record was Garry Monk.

Garry Monk leaves Cambridge United after horror year in charge

Monk, now 45, has certainly been around the block. In his career he’s managed Swansea City, Leeds United, Middlesbrough, Birmingham City, Sheffield Wednesday, and most recently Cambridge United who he took charge of in March 2024 following a four-year break from management.

The 2016/17 Championship season was Monk’s only season in charge at Elland Road. The Whites were on course for a top six finish before a woeful dip in form in he final weeks of the season saw Leeds miss out on 6th on the very last day of the campaign.

In total, Monk won 25 of 53 games as Leeds manager (47.17%, which is only slightly lower than Bielsa’s 47.65%). But with Cambridge, Monk won only nine of his 49 games at the helm (18.37%), leaving the League One club after just one year.
