Rangers send message as player retirement confirmed today

Rangers have sent a message to Martyn Waghorn after he made a huge announcement.

The Gers have had it rough in the Scottish Premiership this season with a 13-point gap to Celtic.

The future of Philippe Clement has been brought into question on multiple occasions this term with the Belgian now having what seems like less than a handful of them on his side.

Waghorn plied his trade for the Ibrox outfit between 2015 and 2017 where he was a regular feature in the squad, making 57 appearances and netting 28 goals altogether.

Rangers send heartfelt message to Martyn Waghorn

Despite all the anguish they’ve been through this season, Rangers have shared a heartfelt message with Waghorn after he announced his retirement from the professional game.

Since his departure from Glasgow, he’s tried his luck with teams such as Ipswich, Derby and Coventry but most recently, he’s turned out for Northampton Town.

However, those days are now over with the striker sending out a message on Instagram (13 February) to inform the footballing world of his decision to retire from the beautiful game and draw the curtains on his impressive career.

In a reply to Waghorn’s post, Rangers commented: “Congratulations on your great career, all the best for the next chapter.”

Philippe Clement needs to turn things around at Ibrox

As mentioned, Rangers haven’t had the best of times this season with the Ibrox outfit often being second-best to their opponents.

While there have been some triumphs along the way such as their 3-0 victory over Celtic at the end of 2024 and their 4-1 Europa League win over Nice in November, it feels like these sorts of results have all come too far between one another.

Especially because last time out they were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by second-tier side Queen’s Park in what was one of the most embarrassing results in Rangers history.
