Exclusive: Newcastle race to sign Caoimhin Kelleher as he makes transfer decision

Newcastle United, Chelsea and overseas clubs are eyeing a summer move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, sources have told Football Insider.

Kelleher, 26, will have just 12 months left on his Reds deal in June and in a major twist, he is believed to be unwilling to pen an extension.

The Republic of Ireland international will push for a Liverpool exit in the off-season with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to provide more competition between the sticks in Arne Slot’s squad.

Alisson has already limited Kelleher’s opportunities with the Reds but he has made a big impression during his outings in recent years.

He has made 17 appearances this term, conceding 15 goals and keeping eight clean sheets.

Newcastle and Chelsea have struggled for a settled presence between the sticks and are weighing up a move for the Liverpool star.

Football Insider revealed last week (4 February) that Chelsea held talks over signing a new goalkeeper in January but could not find a suitable target.

Enzo Maresca has rotated Robert Sanchez, who has made a series of high-profile mistakes, with Filip Jorgensen this term.

Meanwhile, Newcastle have kept Martin Dubravka – who is out of contract in June – in goal despite the injury return of Nick Pope in recent weeks.

Newcastle to re-join Marc Guehi race this summer

Football Insider revealed on 4 February that Newcastle are planning to rekindle their Marc Guehi interest in the summer window.

The Magpies launched several huge-money bids for the England international last year (2024) but failed to land the centre-back.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are also set to go toe-to-toe with Newcastle in the race for Guehi.
