Rangers late bid to sign winger collapses in Ibrox transfer update
Rangers have failed in their attempt to sign a winger on Deadline Day and are now finished with arrivals in the transfer window, according to Heart & Hand.
The podcast page posted on their X account (3 February) to reveal the news that there will be no further incomings at Ibrox until after the end of the season.
A winger, unnamed in the post, was the subject of strong interest but the player’s current club did not sanction his exit due to being unable to secure an 11th-hour replacement; Rabbi Matondo, in his position, recently left for Hannover 96.
Gers have signed only Rafael Fernandes in the winter window, on loan from Lille, while several have departed on a mixture of loans and permanent exits.
“Rangers done for night. [They] were working on one deal for a winger but his club can’t get a replacement so not happening,” Heart & Hand shared.
Rangers in quiet transfer window
Provided Rangers do not suddenly lose any of their big hitters in the final hours of the transfer window, it has been quiet but not catastrophic.
Some Gers fans will be happy to keep the bulk of the same squad with which Philippe Clement approached January, including the likes of Ianis Hagi and Cyriel Dessers, who were strongly linked with departures.
Others, conversely, will see the past five weeks as underwhelming – the Light Blues had given somewhat of an impression that they would be busy throughout the window, continuing the squad overhaul which began in the summer.
Matondo is one of six players who have so far left Ibrox, with Alex Lowry the only permanent exit although it now looks as if Zak Lovelace will be returning to former club Millwall, having rejected a new contract (Daily Record, 3 February).
