Paul Mitchell not messing about – Newcastle United transfer ‘completed by the weekend’

Hartlepool United manager Lennie Lawrence has revealed Jamie Miley will sign for the club in the coming days.

Newcastle United have allowed the midfielder, older brother of Toon prospect Lewis, to seek first-team football. Miley has not made a professional appearance for the Magpies but did feature during last year’s pre-season tour of Japan.

He was loaned to Newport County in August, a move cut short earlier this month ahead of his permanent transfer. The 21-year-old endured an injury-ravaged spell before returning to Newcastle on January 13.

Miley will now get a fresh chance to make his mark on the professional game with National League outfit Hartlepool. Monkey Hangers boss Lawrence let slip that the deal should be completed by the weekend.

“The deal should be complete in time for the weekend,” he said. “The likelihood is that he’ll be on the bench. He’s a good technical player with lots of skill and vision. He’s got to adapt to the physicality of the league but he’s certainly got the talent.”

His move will end the Miley brothers’ dream: replicating the Robledos, Ameobis and Longstaffs of playing for Newcastle in the top flight. The elder sibling said last year: “Hopefully one day (we can play in the Premier League). But obviously, everything is different and things happen at different times. I’ll just take things one step as it comes.

“You’ve got to earn that trust from the manager and when you do you’ve got to perform,” Miley added. “As long as you keep doing that and showing the manager that he can trust you then hopefully you can go in the right direction.”
