Rangers are set to kick their transfer dealings up a gear after recouping fees for a number of first team players.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement was clear that the club would have to sell before they can buy this summer.

At the same time, the Belgian has repeatedly stated that Rangers have much work to do in the transfer market.

After a slow start to the transfer window things have started to move in the background of Ibrox with several first-team signings now firmly in the pipeline.

Rangers transfer coffers boosted by exits

Connor Goldson becomes the latest Rangers player to leave the club this summer.

The high-earning centre-back’s exit will free up almost £2m in wages at Rangers over the year with Connor joining Cypriot side Aris Limassol.

Whilst the fee is officially undisclosed, reports have claimed Rangers will recoup somewhere in the region of £1.4m for Connor Goldson.

This fee joins the reported £2.8m Rangers have raised from the sale of Sam Lammers (Daily Record) to FC Twente over the weekend.

The Dutch forward returns to the Eredivisie and joins a summer exodus at Ibrox which has already seen the likes of John Lundstram, Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic, Kemar Roofe and Jon McLaughlin leave.

And it’s not expected to end there.

Ecuadorean international Jose Cifuentes is set to agree a deal with Greek club Aris Thessaloniki which could include a £4.2m option-to-buy.

Ianis Hagi is also reportedly closing in on a €2.5m (£2.1m) return to Serie A side Fiorentina (Digi Sport).

In total, Rangers will save somewhere in the region of £9m per year should the exits of all nine players be completed as expected (Salary Sport).

Whilst the club have already recouped around £4.2m from the sales of Sam Lammers and Connor Goldson, the sale of Ianis Hagi will take the number up to £6.3m.

Focus on transfer incomings

Whilst there are still others linked with the Rangers exit door – namely James Tavernier and Todd Cantwell – these recent exits will allow the Gers to strike some more transfer business.

The question then becomes who will the Ibrox side target in the coming days and weeks?

Rangers have been linked with two centre-backs in recent days, with FC Twente’s Mees Hilgers and Scotland international Scott McKenna both mentioned.

There have also been murmurs around a deal for Plymouth Argyle attacker Morgan Whittaker despite the remonstrations of manager Wayne Rooney.

Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed Rangers’ interest in Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri.

Then there are those Rangers links to Lawrence Shankland with the Hearts striker once again mentioned this week.

Rangers fans are eager to see more signings come into the club and with Thursday’s Champions League QR3 registration deadline looming large, time is of the essence.
