UNBELIEVABLE NEWS;Rangers confirm the re-signing and return of former player to ibrox

Barry Ferguson has named Jose Cifuentes as the pick of Rangers’ signings so far and feels they may have unearthed a gem.

The Ecuadorian midfielder has had less time than his fellow arrivals to make an impression after being the last of the nine to come in, but even in his two starts and one sub appearance he has looked the part. Doing so in such a short space of time tells a story and hopes are high he will continue to get even better.

The 24-year-old has proved himself to be powerful in the middle of the park but is also good with the ball at his feet and looks an all-round midfielder. He’ll be expected to play a big part against PSV in the Champions League play-off after impressing against Servette.

Ferguson said in the Daily Record: “He has hit the ground running with two very impressive performances in the last week. And, already, I’m prepared to say Rangers might have unearthed a gem here. He’s powerful, strong in the tackle, can handle the ball and looks like a composed operator. Let’s just say, I like what I see.

“But the biggest concerns from the supporters are over the players who have been brought in to make a difference further up the pitch and it’s fair to say that all five of them have a bit of work to do to win the punters over.”

That endorsement of Cifuentes may also be damning on some of the other signings that they’ve already been overshadowed by the latecomer.

Sam Lammers has showed in parts that he has ability and has proved to be a goal threat. But Ferguson also feels he looks like a “rabbit in the headlights” at times which is a concern as he tries to get used to the Scottish game.
