West Ham target Bundesliga star to fix their attacking problems

West Ham have added Red Bull Leipzig striker Andre Silva to their list of targets as they look to bring in another forward this window.

The Irons are desperate to bring in attacking reinforcements after losing Michail Antonio, Jarrod Bowen and Niclas Fullkrug to injuries.

Antonio will miss the rest of the season after his horror car accident last month, while Fullkrug is expected to be sidelined for several weeks with a significant hamstring injury.

Bowen could return in early February, but is a more natural winger, and new manager Graham Potter wants to ease the burden on the England international.

He has now identified Silva, 29, as a potential target.

Silva joined Leipzig in 2021, but was sent out on loan to Real Sociedad last season. He has scored one goal in eight Bundesliga appearances this term after returning to Germany.

The 53-cap Portugal international has also had spells at AC Milan, Sevilla and Porto.

Silva is just one of a number of attacking options that West Ham are looking at.

They have been linked with Nice’s Evann Guessand, who is valued at around £20m.

The Irons are also monitoring Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi and Marseille’s Elye Wahi.

Potter opted to not start with a recognised striker in Tuesday’s 3-2 win against Fulham as Lucas Paqueta led the line.

Danny Ings came off the bench and played a role in the third goal as Potter earned a win in his first league game at the helm.

After exiting the FA Cup in Potter’s first game, this was a game West Ham had to win to keep any embers of their season burning.

The problem is West Ham’s new manager has been faced with an injury crisis on walking in the door.

With no Niclas Fullkrug, Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio, Crysencio Summerville, Jean-Clair Todibo or Alphonse Areola.
