I will not play again:Rangers key player has decided to quit due to…
Rangers could lose Vaclav Cerny just like Abdallah Sima in the summer transfer window, Stephen McGinn says.
The former St Mirren midfielder believes the Czech winger might move on to better things after his loan from Wolfsburg amid interest from Villarreal in Spain [Fichajes, 3 January].
Just like Cerny, Sima became a quick fan favourite at Ibrox in his loan spell before moving to Brest and shining in the Champions League this season.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (7 January), McGinn said: “Last year they had a forward who’s now scoring goals at Champions League level in Sima. He came and did well at Rangers. He goes without the club receiving any money.
“Cerny will be the same. He might move on in the summer to a higher profile league.”
Rangers need permanent Vaclav Cerny transfer in summer
Cerny has become an influential player for the Light Blues this season despite the drop in form from most of the squad under Philippe Clement.
The 27-year-old has been one of the best players for the Bears, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists in all competitions.
It would be prudent of the Glaswegian outfit to permanently sign the forward, but it remains to be seen whether they will have the financial might to do so.
Rangers signed Sima on loan in the summer of 2023 and the Senegalese star scored 16 goals in all competitions for the Gers.
Nedim Bajrami has also been a positive addition at the Light Blues, with Ianis Hagi re-affirming his place in the starting line-up as well.
Clement has some decent attacking options, but Cerny is a cut above the rest, making his permanent arrival an evident priority for Nils Koppen.
In other Rangers news, a transfer for former Celtic ace Filip Benkovic has been mooted.
