Abdul Fatawu snubbed as Leicester City teammate named ‘one of the best’ in the Championship

BBC Radio Leicester pundit Matt Piper didn’t name Abdul Fatawu when suggesting that Leicester City have one of the best players in the league.

Leicester’s squad is stacked with talent and although Lee Hendrie thinks clubs will come in for Fatawu, he is still at the King Power Stadium for now.

Fatawu is undoubtedly one of the best players in the Championship but Piper, who used to play for the Foxes, singled out one of his teammates instead.

Ricardo Pereira named as Leicester City’s star player vs Coventry City

Marti Cifuentes‘ side were held to a goalless draw against rivals Coventry City in the M69 derby, where Ricardo Pereira made his first start of the season.

The right-back was named as the new club captain following Jamie Vardy’s summer exit and has had to have his minutes managed due to injury.

Pereira lasted just over an hour before being replaced by Hamza Choudhury and Piper felt that he proved why he is one of the best players in the league.

Speaking on the When You’re Smiling podcast, he said: “Ricardo’s just quality, you know.

“He’s one of my favourite players we’ve had at the club over the last four or five years.

“If he can stay clear of injury, I said it in commentary, I think he’s one of the best players in the Championship.”

When does Ricardo Pereira’s contract expire?

Despite a summer of change that saw 16 players leave the King Power Stadium, there are more who are out of contract this summer.

One of those includes Pereira, who will be free to speak to clubs as of January 2026 if no new deal is put on the table.

“He’s one of my favourite players we’ve had at the club over the last four or five years.

“If he can stay clear of injury, I said it in commentary, I think he’s one of the best players in the Championship.”
