SHOCKING;After going from Rangers to Celtic’ – The player who left Ibrox and found ‘love’ at Parkhead

Not many players have directly crossed the Glasgow divide and signed for Celtic from Rangers or vice versa.

In fact, only five other players have played for both Celtic and Rangers since the Second World War after Alfie Conn, Mo Johnston, Kenny Miller, Steven Pressley and Mark Brown had worn the jersey of both Glasgow giants, albeit the moves were not directly between both teams.

The nature of football in Glasgow makes that kind of move almost impossible.

However, a player who did directly leave Rangers for Celtic back in 2019 has opened up on the ‘grief’ he got from the Ibrox support and explained the reasons why he decided to quit Ibrox for Parkhead.

The ‘shocking’ abuse Liam Burt got for quitting Rangers for Celtic

Liam Burt was famously released by Rangers and signed for Celtic back in 2019 after making just three first-team appearances for the Ibrox club.

And here, the former Celtic midfielder shares the abuse he got for doing so.

Burt told the Sunday Mail [print edition page 48], “Grief? I’ve faced a fair bit of it. After going from Rangers to Celtic earlier in my career we played Gers at Auchenhowie and someone on Twitter quoted something about ‘ Who’s stabbing him?’

“That was pretty shocking. I still have the screenshots on my phone. I just look at it and laugh now. But it’s not right.

“When I went to Rovers from Bohs, someone shouted: ‘Even your mum and dad hate you.’

“One of the worst was somebody wishing cancer on my family. That makes you stop and think: ‘ Yeah, okay – that’s a wee bit too far.’

“I’ve had people call me a rat and a snake. Everybody gets stuff like that. But it still doesn’t make it right.
