Cyriel Dessers exit close as Russell Martin ready for Rangers transfer two at Ibrox

Cyriel Dessers looks set to leave Rangers this summer.

The Nigerian striker is a controversial figure at Ibrox, despite notching 29 goals and seven assists in 55 matches last season.

He is often criticised for his inconsistency in front of goal, and Russell Martin is believed to want a new striker in the transfer window.

Dessers exit close for Rangers as Martin seeks new man

The 30-year-old has been involved in a complete saga with a move to AEK Athens mooted for the Rangers star.

A report from the print edition of the Scottish Sunday Mail (22 June, page 56) claims that Dessers is edging closer towards a move to the Greek side.

It states that a new striker is high on Martin’s wishlist, but he could be forced to look for an alternative to Don Turgeman, if the Israeli club continue to play hardball.

That new striker could follow Max Aarons through the door, who is set to join on loan from Bournemouth.

Rangers should be careful with Dessers exit

There is no doubt that Dessers is frustrating when things are not going his way, but he scored valuable goals last campaign and is the most lethal attacker at the Govan club.

There are question marks over Hamza Igamane’s future, and Barry Ferguson did not trust the Moroccan to lead the line and chose the eight-cap international instead.

Danilo has struggled to adapt to the Scottish game since his move from Feyenoord and does not look like the man to take over from Dessers, and is likely to leave as well.

The Gers have been linked with the likes of Matija Frigan and Turgeman, but whether they would be better than the seemingly exit-bound ace remains to be seen.
